Candles appear in different forms and sizes. They have a wide array of uses, too, from being used in rites in different religions, to decorations, lighting effects, and more. They even come in different shapes, from traditional geometric figures, animals, fruits, and even intricate flowers. People get candles in different ways – some make their own, some buy them, and some receive them as presents. But be they homemade, from a store, or from another person, candles have a lot more layers to them than just what’s on the surface.
Candle makinginvolves using many different ingredients. A candle maker, or a chandler, has the liberty of choosing his own candle making supplies. There is a wide selection of supplies to choose from.
First on the list to be able to make a candle is the candle wax. These waxes come in different forms, each with characteristics that set them apart. Some waxes release less chemicals into the atmosphere as they burn. Others adhere better to the sides of containers, while yet others have better scent throws because they hold a higher fragrance load.
On the topic of fragrances, there is a wide selection of scents that can be used, depending on the type of oils. There are scented oils that bear the aromas of food and baking, like nuts, cookies, and pies. Others are reminiscent of flowers, others of fruits. Some bear the scents of nature, like sandalwood, clean cotton, eucalyptus, and even freshly cut grass. There are even fragrance oils that are based on designer perfumes and lotions.
Not only do candles come in different scents, they also come in different colors, and the methods used to give them color are distinct from one another. Mixed with the wax are the liquid, chip, and blister dyes, and in doing so, gives the candles their tints. On the other hand, cut and carve dyes aren’t used for mixing, but for dipping the candles, and the colors coat the candles’ surface. With these types of dyes, candles are dipped into it, and this dye coats the candles’ surface. In addition to scent and color, there are several other components that can be used as well. Some enhance the scent throw, others enhance color, and even put a little glaze on the candle.
Candles alone are already a sight to behold, but people find more ways to make them even more pleasant to the eye, with the use of differently shaped jars, candle dishes, beads, and crystals. But with packaging or not, candles make for pretty trinkets, not just for others, but for yourself as well.
