Soy candles are made using Soy wax, which is hydrogenated soybean oil and can be used as a substitute for Beeswax and Paraffin wax.
In 1991 Michael Richards set up the Candleworks. He started off making Beeswax candles but quickly realised it was getting expensive. While searching for a inexpensive alternative to Beeswax he found that there had been a demand in the candle industry for natural wax. This is when he invented Soy wax candles.
In May 1995 The Body Shop became the first significant high street retailer to stock Soy candles, supplied by the Candleworks.
Why should you use Soy candles?
Soy wax is 100% natural. It doesn’t contain any toxins or carcinogens. It produces low soot, unlike Paraffin candles which produce a lot of black soot because they contain Petrol.
Burning a lot of Paraffin based candles may have negative effects on your respiratory system.
Soy candles have a lower liquefying point than Beeswax and Paraffin so that the candles burn slower. They can last 2 times as long as other candles, making them highly cheap.
Soy wax is biodegradable and spills can be simply cleaned with hot, soapy water. Paraffin can be tricky to remove from some surfaces.
Soy is renewable. This makes it significantly better value because it is a widely available source.
The lower melting point of soy has effects on the candle smell and is sometimes called a ‘throw smell. ‘
As a soy candle liquifies, it leaves a sizeable softened wax pool round the wick, which is when the scent oils disperse into the air.
Many individuals have announced that they have suffered from headaches caused by the powerful chemical ‘throw fragrance ‘ that paraffin candles emit. Soy candles have an enduring yet clean smell because they are all natural.
Soy candles are now widely available to everybody. They come in a wide selection of shapes, sizes, and smells. Soy candles are brilliant as a present or for your abode office, and in beauty spas. They are also safe to burn (if kept beyond the reach) around kids as they are natural and do not release any dangerous chemicals.
Soy candles are also a favourite in Aromatherapy massage.
